The organisers of the annual pilgrimage Summorum Pontificum ‘Cœtus Internationalis Summorum Pontificum’ published an October 27 statement about the Vatican’s rejection to enter St Peter’S basilica. The text confirms that no Solemn Pontifical Mass was ever intended at St Mary Major Basilica, thus a supposed downgrading of such a liturgy to a low Mass was a false rumour. A little known information is that the Marian basilica wasn’t offered by the Vatican as an alternative.
