Autumn Ember Days is coming! Today (September 14) is the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Autumn Ember Days follows this feast day. I don't know what days we fast for 2026! My guess is Sept 16, 18, 19. Some sources say Sept 23, 25, 26. It probably does not matter which week you choose. I intend to fast starting the Wednesday, September 16.

It is visible e.g. in Poland when it comes to the Christmas Eve fast dish - carp. Carp was one of the cheapest fish/meal in socialist Poland. But now, the prices - especially if you want to buy local carp not imported one, are comparable with... venison. Thus, carp, becoming quite luxurious, lost all its sense as the dish for the fast.
