Sir James MacMillan, a world-famous Scottish composer, has launched a petition on Change.org calling for "an end to the ban on the Traditional Latin Mass". MacMillan, along with many other people from the arts and public life, had already written to The Times on 3 July asking the Vatican to end its recent policy of banning the ancient Traditional Latin Mass from Catholic parishes around the world. MacMillan, 64, is the son of a simple carpenter. As a young man he was briefly a member of the Young Communist League. He first came to public attention in 1990 with the premiere of The Confession of Isobel Gowdie, a work for large symphony orchestra. The work's international acclaim led to further high-profile commissions. MacMillan's percussion concerto Veni, Veni, Emmanuel has become his most performed work. He was also asked by the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich to compose his Cello Concerto, which Rostropovich premiered in 1997. MacMillan's Catholic faith has inspired many of his sacred …More

Father Casey Cole, a Franciscan, published on Instagram.com (8 July) a video showing him on "America's Got Talent", an American talent competition broadcast on the NBC television network. However, Cole has never been a guest on this show, which is aimed at the simple-minded. He simply filmed himself in liturgical vestments behind a Eucharistic table and mixed it with scenes from the show. The video is so well done that simple minds believe that Cole's appearance on the show actually happened. The video begins with one of the judges asking Cole how he is doing. Cole replies: "I feel so sick I could throw up." He then introduces himself as a "Catholic priest", causing the audience to go into hysterics. After a few more nonsensical questions, he starts his performance. It consits in the words of institution of the Novus Ordo Eucharist and the elevation of a host. The "consecration" of the host is followed by another outburst of enthusiastic hysteria. End of the video. Instagram claims that …More

At his home north of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mike Schintz, 45, welled up as three-month-old granddaughter Ivy beamed from ear to ear, smiling and giggling as her grandpa showed her affection. The moment took place on January 28 and was recorded by Mike's wife, JoJo, who was hosting baby Ivy for a sleepover. According to JoJo, as soon as Mike had taken Ivy out of her car seat and placed her on the counter to say "hello," the youngster immediately produced the biggest smiles they had ever seen from her. JoJo quickly grabbed her phone to record the moment, with Mike declaring "I have tears in my eyes" at the start of the footage. This was the first …More

The Polish parliament has rejected a bill, that would have destroyed Poland's sane abortion laws, by just 3 votes (218 v 215). The decriminalisation of the crime was supported by the majority of the ruling coalition. It was defeated thanks to some politicians from the ruling camp who joined the opposition and voted against it or who did not take part in the vote. The legislation would have decriminalised an abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy. It was proposed last year by Lewica (The Left), which is part of Prime Minister Donald Tusk's ruling coalition. Tusk himself announced yesterday that his party (PO), the largest member of the coalition, would vote in favour. The result of the vote was greeted with a standing ovation from the PiS benches. "Life and the Constitution have won," declared MP Bartłomiej Wróblewski (Pis): "The most vulgar attempt to violate the Constitution since 1989, depriving children of legal protection before birth, was defeated in the Sejm." “Oops, Donald …More
