The Vatican's highest court, the Apostolic Signatura, ruled on June 27 to lift restrictions against Rev. Kenneth Kaucheck of the Archdiocese of Detroit. On July 18, he died of cancer at the age of 77. In 2009, a woman came forward to allege that Rev. Kaucheck had sexually abused her when she was a teenager in the 1970s. Prosecutors declined to press charges because the woman was an adult at the time. In September 2020, the Archdiocese of Detroit banned Rev. Kaucheck from public ministry because of the same allegation. He appealed the restriction and won this summer.
