Synod Working Document: Female Ministry for Preaching, Baptising and Weddings - Yet No Ordination

It was compiled by a group of twenty hand-picked synod 'experts' and 'theologians'. Remarkably, the so-called hot button issues are avoided.
The homosexual issue is not directly addressed. The text speaks only of welcoming people who "feel rejected", excluded or on the margins of the Church and "who are struggling for full recognition" [e.g. Catholics].
Participants are warned that there will be no debate in October on the [invalid] ordination of deaconesses.
However, the text invents "a call for adequately trained lay men and women to contribute to the proclamation of the Word of God, including in the celebration of the Eucharist", abuses that were introduced in many countries already decades ago.
It mentions regulations in the Church allowing lay people to baptise or assist at weddings in exceptional circumstances [which have long become the rule in Western Europe and America]. "It is useful to continue to reflect on how these ministries can be entrusted to the laity in a more stable way".
Key elements of the text deal with church life and hierarchy in line with the smoke screen of "synodality", including more "lay governance".
It argues that "the practice of synodality is the way in which we renew our commitment to this mission today". The elastic concept of "synodality" is even described as "an expression of the nature of the [Francis'] Church".
The aim is to consider how church structures can encourage greater "participation". It seeks space for "legitimate diversity" [= disintegration] among local churches. The term "churches" is used in the plural, whereas Christ founded only one church.
Changes in canon law may be proposed. The document "does not expect an answer to every question" ("there may be more significant and profound developments as the basic proposal is further assimilated and lived").
At the same time, the document promises visible change: "Without concrete changes, the vision of a synodal church will not be credible, and this will alienate those members of the people of God who have drawn strength and hope from the synodal way".
To sum up: The stage is set for permanent "synodality", turning the Church into an Anglican-style umbrella organisation without content. But Francis' monolithic authoritarianism will remain, and Catholics will continue to be excluded.
