Bishop Strickland about modernism within the Church of Leo XIV My dear friends in Christ, Thank you for joining me today. There are some words that once occupied a central place in the life of the Catholic Church but are now seldom heard, and I want to talk about one of those words today. The word is “modernism.” Ask the average Catholic today what modernism is, and many will not know how to answer. Ask when they last heard a sermon about it, and many would say, “Never.” Yet there was a time when the Church regarded modernism as such a grave danger that Pope St. Pius X devoted an entire encyclical to exposing it. In 1907, in Pascendi Dominici Gregis, he called modernism “the synthesis of all heresies.” Those are extraordinary words. Popes do not use language like that lightly. If St. Pius X believed modernism was the synthesis of all heresies, then a question naturally follows: What happened? Did modernism simply disappear? Or have we reached a point where the Church’s own warnings …More
Spanish Bishops Divided over Immigrants in Ceuta: Archbishop Luis Argüello of Valladolid, president of the Spanish bishops’ conference, called the surge “an invasion,” contrasting with the local diocese’s humanitarian response. Argüello said the influx was part of a broader political strategy, arguing that migrants were being used in struggles for “money and power” and that “demographics are a weapon.”
[Saint Catherine of Genoa – XV-XVI Century AD; born: Genoa, Republic of Genoa/ died: Genoa, Republic of Genoa; Aged 62-63; mystic, known for her work among the sick and the poor] ST. JOSEPH'S INTERCESSION FOR THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED. St. Francis de Sales says: ** We do not often enough remember our dead, our faithful departed." Thus the Church, Uke a good »"mother, recalls to us the thought of the dead when we have forgotten them, and therefore she consecrates the month of November to the memory of the dead. This pious and salutary practice of praying for an entire month for the dead takes its rise from the earliest ages of the Church. The custom of mourning thirty days for the dead existed amongst the Jews. The practice of saying thirty Masses on thirty consecutive days was established by St. Gregory, and Innocent XI enriched it with indulgences. " God has made known to me," says the venerable sister Marie Denise dc Martignat, " that a devotion to the death of St. Joseph obtains many …More
" that a devotion to the death of St. Joseph obtains many graces for those who are agonizing, and that, as St. Joseph did not at once pass into heaven—because Jesus Christ had not opened its gates—but descended into Limbo, it is a most useful devotion for the agonizing, and for the souls in Purgatory, to offer to God the resignation of St. Joseph when he was dying and about to leave Jesus and Mary in this world, and to honor the holy patience of this great Saint waiting calmly in Limbo until Easter-day, when Jesus Christ, risen and glorious, released him."

Chapter XX ~ Diversity of the Pains — King Sancho and Queen Guda — St. Lidwina and the Soul Transpierced — Blessed Margaret Mary and the Bed of Fire. We read in the Life of Blessed Margaret Mary that a soul was tortured in a bed of torments on account of her indolence during life ; at the same time she was subjected to a particular torture in her heart, on account of certain wicked sentiments, and in her tongue, in punishment of her uncharitable words. Moreover, she had to endure a frightful pain of an entirely different nature, caused neither by fire nor iron, but by the sight of a condemned soul. Let us see how the Blessed Margaret describes it in her writings. " I saw in a dream," she says, " one of our sisters who had died some time previous. She told me that she suffered much in Purgatory, but that God had inflicted upon her a suffering which surpassed all other pains, by showing her one of her near relatives precipitated into Hell. "At these words I awoke, and felt as though ray …More

– Folha de S. Paulo, May 28, 1984 – by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira I’m not sure how to condense the lively wealth of material I promised for today into the hundred lines allowed by my article’s strict limit. “Making do” is the classic form of Brazilian savoir-faire. Let’s see if I can do it this time. Regarding the future Civil Code, which threatens to be hastily imposed on our defenseless Brazil like a straitjacket, I have expressed my concern that it will become an instrument of self-destruction for the social classes currently in power. There are many reasons to fear that, under its rule, Brazilian society will become considerably more distant from old Christian standards and much more aligned with communist standards. In other words, those among the bourgeoisie who control public affairs will have led us through a critical stage of the already short path remaining before we reach complete communization. The self‑destruction of ruling classes is a phenomenon of paramount importance, …More

"Every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth," Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, Archbishop of Marseille and president of the French Bishops' Conference, said in an interview on Avvenire.it on August 5. Talking about Marseille's religious diversity [where Arabic has long become the dominant language], Cardinal Aveline described the coexistence of Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, and Christians as a theological challenge: "We did not invent the plurality of religions, nor the fact that every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth." On the Church's catholicity, Aveline claims: "The Creed we recite every Sunday embodies the Church's vocation to catholicity. If I had been born in China, I would have been Confucian; in Japan, Shinto." He argued that the Church's catholicity means recognizing "the desire for God in the hearts of women and men of every religion." Citing the Second Vatican Council, he said the Holy Spirit offers everyone "the possibility of being …More
Our Lord did not found a number of Churches; He founded only one. There is only one Cross by which we can be saved, and that Cross has been given to the Catholic Church. It has not been given to others. ~ To His Church, His Mystical bride, Christ has given all graces. No grace in the world, no grace in the history of humanity is distributed except through her. ~ There are three ways of receiving this grace: ~ Baptism of water; Baptism of blood, (that of the martyrs who confessed the faith while still catechumens) and Baptism of desire. ~ This consists in doing the will of God. ~ God knows all men and He knows that amongst Protestants, Muslims, Buddhists and in the whole of humanity there are men of good will. ~ They receive the grace of baptism without knowing it, but in an effective way. ~ In this way they become part of the Church. ~ The error consists in thinking they are saved by their religion. ~ They are saved in their religion, but not by it. ~ There is no Buddhist church in Heaven …More
Welcome Jesus before that it be too late Yes, God wants all men to be saved, but saved during the life he gives them here on earth, because there is no other. After this life comes eternity, eternal life. I repeat this because even priests find it hard to accept: there is no third life between time and eternity in which we can still secure our salvation. As God teaches through the mouth of Saint Paul: At the acceptable time I heard you; on the day of salvation I helped you. Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. Now, not tomorrow. That is why the Apostle says: Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Why work out your salvation with fear and trembling, if you can still do it in death, once you are free from the cares and temptations of this world?

Holy Mass Celebrated in Venezuela's Devastated Earthquake Zone | Shalom World News Amid shattered homes, silent streets and mountains of rubble, the Holy Mass rose like a prayer of hope from one of Venezuela's darkest landscapes. In the heart of La Guaira, one of the regions devastated by the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24, priests, seminarians, religious sisters and young lay faithful gathered between the heavily damaged OPPPE 26 and 27 sectors to celebrate the Eucharist, transforming a place of unimaginable sorrow into a sanctuary of faith. Liturgy was offered for the eternal repose of the thousands of lives lost in the country's worst natural disaster in generations. With tears in their eyes and rosaries in their hands, the faithful entrusted to God the souls of the victims, prayed for families still waiting in anguish for news of those trapped beneath the rubble, and remembered the rescuers, firefighters, medical personnel and thousands of volunteers who left the …More
(...) Paul hat den ehemaligen …More
