Augustinians to Close Cork Church After 800 Years: After nearly 800 years in Cork, Ireland, the Order of St Augustine will close St Augustine’s Church this July. The decision, described as being taken with “great sadness,” follows an accelerating decline in vocations that began in the mid-1970s. Of the 70 Augustinian priests in Ireland, only 10 are under 70. The Cork community is now down to just three members.

Religious order to end near 800-year association with Cork when it closes church in city centre

A religious community which has been ministering to the people of Cork for almost 800 years its to close its church in the city centre later this year.
Vicar Provincial of the Augustinians in Ireland, Fr Paddy O’Reilly, told the congregation attending a Vigil Mass at St Augustine’s on Washington Street on Saturday that the order was closing the church in July due to falling vocations.
O’Reilly told Mass-goers that the decision to close St Augustine’s was taken with “great sadness”. He said that since the mid-1970s, the order had experienced “a slow but accelerating decline in vocations”.
According to the Order of St Augustine website, it has 70 priests living in 10 locations in Ireland.

O’Reilly told worshippers that only 10 of these priests are under the age of 70 and more than half its members are over 80.
It is understood that St Augustine’s, which was run with the consent of the Bishop of Cork and Ross, is now home to just three Augustinian priests following the deaths …

It would be nice if “Fr. Paddy” (as I’m sure he’s now known) would own up to the fact that he and his Modernist confreres bare as much responsibility for the collapsing membership as any of the other supporters of the Conciliar Church.
He’d have to have been living in a cave not to realize that he could revive his membership almost overnight by simply offering the Traditional Latin Mass once a week. Indeed, if he were to offer it exclusively, as well as denouncing the false and heretical teachings of Vatican II (such as Ecumenism, Religious Liberty and Collegiality), the church would be as crowded as it was a hundred years ago.
Yet, he won’t do that. He’ll put the church on the market and allow the once sacred space to be turned into a restaurant, a hotel, or even an Islamic mosque. One thing is for certain, however. He will never sell it to the SSPX no matter how generous the offer may be. After all, the Society is authentically Catholic.
I shed not a tear for them.

Gulf Bishop Calls for Calm and Daily Rosary Amid Military Escalation in the Middle East
Amid the growing military tension between Iran, the United States, and Israel, Bishop Paolo Martinelli, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, has addressed an urgent message to the Catholics of the region, exhorting them to remain calm and to intensify prayer for peace.
According to EWTN, the appeal comes after the rapid escalation of the conflict that began on February 28, when Israeli and US attacks on targets in Iran were followed by Iranian retaliations with missiles and drones aimed at Israel and various positions linked to US forces in Gulf countries.
“Remain calm and serene”
In his message, disseminated by the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia—which includes the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Yemen—Bishop Martinelli asked the faithful to “remain calm and serene” and to carefully follow the instructions of civil authorities.
The prelate emphasized the importance of acting prudently in …More

Why is the account of the Transfiguration read on the Second Sunday of Lent?

Second Sunday of Lent – Transfiguration

Why is the account of the Transfiguration read on the Second Sunday of Lent?
The Gospel of the Second Sunday of Lent (and Ember Saturday) is that of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (also celebrated on August 6th). Its reading at this time highlights this episode’s connection to the Passion, and its role in preparing the Apostles.
In addition, its place in the liturgical cycle may have been intended as an
encouragement to those catechumens preparing for baptism at Easter, who may have been increasingly conscious that becoming a Christian meant the end of their old, comfortable lives.
The event occurs after the confession of St. Peter and Christ’s first explicit prediction of the Passion. It is situated within the later part of Christ’s Galilean ministry, as he begins to prepare the Apostles for his approaching suffering.
This remarkable mystery confirms His identity as the Son of God, with the testimony of Moses and Elias representing the Law and the Prophets. It also provides a …

Good essay. The Transfiguration also reminds the Jews (both the real ones and the non-Semitic ones) that the patriarchs of the Old Testament needed the DEATH AND RESURRECTION OUR LORD to get to Heaven. So all were waiting for this event.

Historic Saint-Paul Catholic Church in Montreal destroyed by fire - LifeSite

Fri Feb 27, 2026 - 3:15 pm EST
MONTREAL, Quebec (
LifeSiteNews) — A historic Catholic church in Montreal, Canada, was reduced to near rubble in a huge blaze, the cause of which investigators still have not determined.
The over 100-year-old Saint-Paul Catholic Church in Montreal, Quebec, went up in flames on February 23. A food bank next to it was also reduced to ashes. The church was built in 1910 and holds significant historical meaning for the local community.
While the church has been vacant for some time, about 148 people had to flee the area due to the flames, including over 70 seniors who lived in a nearby care home.
The cause of the church fire, say investigators, is not yet known; however, it comes at a time when arson attacks on Catholic churches in Canada have reached epidemic-like proportions.
Mayor of the local borough of Saint-Paul’s, Véronique Fournier, in a statement on social media, said the fire is “challenging for the residents of Côte-Saint-Paul” as the church has …

Visiting Roman parish this afternoon, Pope reiterated his Angelus plea: “I'm deeply concerned, and we don't know how many days it will last, about the situation in the Middle East. War again! And we must be heralds of Jesus' peace, which God desires for everyone! We must pray much for peace, live in unity, and reject the temptation to harm others; violence is never the right choice.”

Starmer 'stands by' decision to snub Trump's Iran strikes despite US fury at British 'hand-wringing' - with Special Relationship on the brink

Keir Starmer today insisted he 'stands by' his decision to snub Donald Trump's Iran strikes because they were 'not thought through' - despite a brutal rebuke from the US.
Making a statement to MPs on the mounting crisis, the PM acknowledged that the president was not happy that the UK initially refused to get involved.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth went further this afternoon by swiping at 'hand-wringing' from America's long-standing allies.
But in a dramatic escalations of tensions in the Special Relationship, Sir Keir insisted he did not believe in 'regime change from the skies'. 'It's my duty to judge what is in Britain's national interest. That is what I've done and I stand by it.'
Sir Keir is bracing for a battering from his own left-wing MPs after conducting a partial U-turn last night, agreeing that American forces can use British bases for 'defensive' actions against Iranian retaliation.
As he tries to quell the backlash, the PM told the Commons: 'The use of British bases is …

Gas prices spike amid fears of Middle East supply shock

European benchmarks have leapt over 50% as fighting increases shipping risks through the crucial Strait of Hormuz
Gas markets around the world were rattled on Monday, with benchmark European natural gas prices rising sharply and broader energy markets on edge after Middle East tensions increased the risk to supplies via the critical Strait of Hormuz.
European benchmark gas futures surged by around 50% – their biggest single day move since March 2022 – after LNG tankers largely stopped transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman that carries about a fifth of global oil and gas shipments, over the weekend.
The spike was compounded by a drone strike on QatarEnergy’s major LNG complex at Ras Laffan, which forced production to be halted.
Crude markets also rallied, with Brent futures climbing to multi-month highs as the escalation further constrained energy flows from the region.
Across the Gulf, other energy sites have also been hit or temporarily shut, with …

How can the US and Kuwait shoot down our planes with their own intel? Doesn't sound right to me. But at least people can see now that trump is the king of liars. We don't have the biggest, strongest and most powerful military in the world. That's just a way of brainwashing the gullible and easily manipulated. Well I won't hold my breath because I can see people are still believing him and trusting him. Some of us warned that trump will be the one to cause WWlll. And here we are. Getting closer by the second. The man of peace who in the middle of talks bombs a country he said had no more nuclear facilities. Imagine that?

WHY TRUMP IS A DANGER TO CATHOLICS
Trump admitted on the air to Mark Levin that he is a Jew. He is a notorious Zionist. From the earliest days of the Church, the apostles and their disciples taught salvation is only for those who profess faith in Jesus Christ. They taught love for your enemies, and followed Jesus' teaching to turn the other cheek if someone hits you. The Jewish response was to condemn Christ to death, and to kill his disciples, beginning with St. Stephen, whom they stoned to death because they were enraged at him because he so deftly refuted all their arguments. They spread the malicious lies that the early Christians were subversives who wanted to overthrow the Empire; and their "Eucharist", the sacrifice in which the Christians offered the "body and blood of Christ", which they ate and drank, was actually a perverse ritual of infanticide and cannibalism. Emperor Nero's wife, Poppaea Sabina, was a Jewish sympathizer*, who planted those Jewish lies …More

Blackwater Founder Fumes to Steve Bannon About Iran Strikes: ‘I Don’t Think This Was in America’s Interests’
Blackwater founder Erik Prince told Steve Bannon he was disappointed in the U.S. strikes that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with Prince saying he did not believe the mission served “America’s interests.”
Prince — who served as a Navy SEAL before founding the private military contractor in 1997 — vented he did not know what the endgame was for President Donald Trump during his appearance on Bannon’s WarRoom on Sunday. His appearance comes one day after the joint American-Israeli strikes eliminated the ayatollah and dozens of other leaders from Iran’s theocratic regime.
Bannon noted it was a “spectacular” result, but Prince was not as thrilled.
“Look Steve, I’m not happy about the whole thing. I don’t think this was in America’s interests,” Prince said. “It’s going to uncork a significant can of worms and chaos and destruction in Iran now.”

Christian Prayer Is Liturgical and Sacramental - Benedict XVI In Unpublished Letter

An unpublished letter by Benedict XVI on Christian prayer, dated April 27, 2021, has been published in the Italian book ‘La fede del futuro’. His short meditation.
In general, prayer is the fundamental religious act. It is an attempt to establish a direct connection with God.
The peculiarity of Christian prayer is that one prays with Jesus Christ and to Him simultaneously. As both man and God, Jesus can be the bridge that overcomes the infinite abyss between God and man.
In this sense, Christ is the ontological possibility of prayer.
For this reason, he is also the practical guide to prayer. His disciples, who had seen him pray, addressed this request to him: "Lord, teach us to pray" (Lk 11:1). They recalled that John the Baptist had taught his disciples to pray, knowing that Jesus was infinitely closer to God than even the greatest religious figure: John the Baptist.
Thus, the two fundamental characteristics of prayer emerge: those relative to being and awareness. These two characteristics …More
