The court rejected an appeal by former Abbess Laura García de Viedma, confirming that the monasteries cannot be converted into civil associations. The verdict sided with Archbishop Mario Iceta of Burgos, who is also the Pontifical Commissioner of the monasteries. The dispute began in 2024 when the nuns published a manifesto declaring the Church heretical and announcing their departure. Over the following months, the nuns followed different figures and sects.
