In his recent video show, journalist Raymond Arroyo asked the canon lawyer, Rev. Gerald Murray, about Leo XIV's meeting with the cardinals on January 7-8: "If you had two minutes at the microphone in that consistory, what would you say?" Murray replied that the Church must acknowledge that Pope Francis has introduced ideas that no previous pope has taught, and that these ideas must be confronted and rejected. He specifically mentions Communion for people in adulterous second marriages. He also mentions "blessings" for homosexual couples, arguing that one cannot bless sin. Finally, he referred to the statement signed by Pope Francis which implied that God wills all religions.
Canon lawyer Fr Murray is offering advice to cardinals ahead of the upcoming January consistory. He says that Pope Francis has taught things that no pope has ever taught before, and that these things need to be addressed — meaning they need to be cast aside.
@V.R.S. Yes!!! And that is the problem with all of these “conservative” Catholic clerics. They speak very correctly about some things, yet they are incredibly confused about other critical Catholic teachings. Quite clearly, this priest has been completely confused by the Second Vatican Council but fails to see the truth. Anyone that sees no problem with John Courtney Murray is not Catholic. Built in 1866, the church was desacralised in 1999 and has been fully closed since 2004. For many years, the building was at risk of demolition or being turned into office space, despite interest from the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X. It will now be restored through a project led by the City of Lyon and the company Carré d’Or. Work is expected to start in 2026, with an investment of nearly €5 million. The historic structure will be preserved.

Today, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, celebrated a pre-Christmas Eucharist at the Holy Family parish in Gaza City. Nine children received First Communion, and one child was baptized. Cardinal Pizzaballa also visited hospitals and humanitarian projects and met families living in a displaced persons camp along the Gaza seafront.
