Tucho: From Now On, ‘Co-Redemptrix’ Not Allowed in Liturgy or Vatican Documents

Cardinal Tucho Fernández clarified his November 4 clarification Mater Populi Fidelis on the Marian title Co-Redemptrix. He was asked about it by DianeMontagna.Substack.com after Tuesday’s press conference.
Regarding his formulation that “it is always inappropriate” to use the title Co-Redemptrix, Tucho claimed now that it is "not meant to judge the past". However, "from now on" it will not be used "either in the liturgy, that is, in liturgical texts, or in the official documents of the Holy See", he believes.
"If you, together with your group of friends, believe you understand well the true meaning of this expression, have read the document, and see that its positive aspects are also affirmed there, and you wish to express precisely that within your prayer group or among friends, you may use the title—but it will not be used officially, that is, either in liturgical texts or in official documents."
Tucho’s problem is "not its underlying doctrine", but the term itself that risks "…More

Fr. Perricone: How Can Catholics Navigate the Current Problems in the Church?

If you want to understand the strange currents running through American Catholicism today, you could do worse than to look inside the U.S. Capitol at 8:00 a.m. on a Monday.
That’s when dozens of young Congressional staffers—most in their 20s—gather weekly to pray the Rosary before walking into the machinery of national politics. Many attend the traditional Latin Mass. And recently, dozens of them invited Fr. John Perricone to the Capitol to discuss his new book
Torches Against the Abyss.
The crowd was so large the event had to be moved to a double-sized room. “These were bright, searching Catholics,” Fr. Perricone said. “Their questions weren’t theoretical—they were existential.”
They asked why their generation had been “cheated out of the Church’s patrimony,” why so many priests downplay the crises in the Church, and what it means to become a saint when so many around them seem deprived of even the basics of Catholic faith.
Fr. Perricone answered bluntly: charitable action demands …

"But someone may prefer to regard the Divine Orders as pure and ineffable in their own natures, and beyond our power of vision, and may consider that the imagery of the Celestial Intelligences in the Scriptures does not really represent them, and is like a crude dramatization of the celestial names: and he may say that the theologians, in depicting wholly incorporeal natures under bodily forms should, as far as possible, make use of fitting and related images, and represent them by the most exalted, incorporeal and spiritual substances amongst ourselves, and should not endue the Celestial and Godlike Principles with a multitude of low and earthly forms."

‘THE CELESTIAL HIERARCHY’ By Dionysius the Areopagite; CHAPTER II; Pages 5-8; part 1

[Dionysius the Areopagite – I Century AD; Hieromartyr and Bishop of Athens; Converted by St. Paul]
“Chapter II
That Divine and Celestial matters are fittingly revealed even through unlike symbols.
I consider, then, that in the first place we must explain our conception of the purpose of each Hierarchy and the good conferred by each upon its followers; secondly we must celebrate the Celestial Hierarchies as they are revealed in the Scriptures; and finally we must say under what holy figures the descriptions in the sacred writings portray those Celestial Orders, and to what kind of purity we ought to be guided through those forms lest we, like the many, should impiously suppose that those Celestial and Divine Intelligences are many-footed or many-faced beings, or formed with the brutishness of oxen, or the savageness of lions, or the curved beaks of eagles, or the feathers of birds, or should imagine that they are some kind of fiery wheels above the heavens, or material thrones upon which …More

First non-European bishop appointed in Germany.
With the appointment of Joshy George Pottackal, O.Carm., the German Catholic Church marks a quiet but historic turning point. Born in Kerala, India, and today a German citizen, Pottackal has spent most of his priestly life serving communities in the Diocese of Mainz — from youth ministry to parish leadership and seminary formation.
His selection as auxiliary bishop signals something more than a personal milestone: it reflects a Church that increasingly mirrors the global reality of its faithful. Pottackal’s pastoral style is known to be grounded, people-focused, and refreshingly unpretentious. His path — India to Germany, student to pastor, citizen to bishop — embodies the kind of rooted openness that Germany’s Catholic landscape has long needed but rarely seen in leadership.

Birmingham Vicar General Defrocked After Affair Allegations With Teen

A longtime Catholic priest in the Birmingham area has been removed from the clerical state following allegations that he began a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl more than 15 years ago, the Diocese of Birmingham confirmed this week.
Father Robert Sullivan, 61, served as vicar general for the diocese and pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood until he was placed on administrative leave in early August amid the claims. The accuser, Heather Jones, now 33, alleged the exploitative arrangement started around 2009 when she was 17 and working at an adult entertainment club near Birmingham that Sullivan frequented. Jones detailed years of sexual encounters, travel, financial support and a nondisclosure agreement for $273,000 after she raised concerns, according to her public account submitted to the diocese.
The stark 44-year age gap between Sullivan, ordained in 1993 after seminary training, and the teenager has drawn scrutiny amid the diocese’s canonical investigation …

This is great news: the popularity of veganism and vegetarianism is on a steep decline in the Netherlands, with more people who chose to abstain from meat or animal products now willing to consume it.
From an item at Remix News:
The data shows that completely abandoning meat is on the decline among the Dutch. In 2021, 2 percent of the population claimed to be vegetarian, which meant consuming no meat or fish, but dairy and eggs. That segment grew to 5 percent in 2023, but has now dropped back to 3 percent. …

3 New Lawsuits Accuse Archdiocese of Chicago of Protecting Priests Accused of Homosexual Child Abuse

The Archdiocese of Chicago faces new accusations and three lawsuits accusing the Catholic church of keeping two priests in the ministry for decades, despite warnings and complaints of sexual abuse of children.
The lawsuits claim the Archdiocese kept reassigning Fr. John William Curran and Fr. Daniel Mark Holihan to parishes and schools, even after church leaders were aware of allegations of sexual abuse.
One of the lawsuits claims Holihan groomed a high school student at Quigley Preparatory Seminary in the 1980s, convincing him to visit him at his cottage in northwest suburban Wonder Lake, and the rectory of Our Lady of the Snows Parish in Chicago, where he sexually abused the boy.
According to the lawsuit, the Archdiocese at the time already was aware of sexual misconduct reports from more than 20 people against Holihan dating back to the 1960s. Instead of removing him from the ministry, the lawsuit claims the Archdiocese repeatedly reassigned Holihan to new parishes and schools for …

Abbess of Belorado Arrested Over Alleged Sale of Convent Artworks

On Thursday, the Spanish Civil Guard arrested Laura García de Viedma, abbess of the Sedevacantist Poor Clares at the Belorado monastery.
The investigation concerns the alleged sale of artworks and heritage items belonging to the convent.
According to Spanish media reports, officers entered the monastery early in the day despite attempts by members of the community to block access.
Items from the monastery have reportedly surfaced on the antiques market. Some of the convent's gold, totalling 1.73 kg, was reportedly sold for around €130,000.
In recent months, the courts have ordered the nuns to leave Belorado and rejected their attempt to register as a civil association owning the monastery.
Most of the group now reside in a monastery in Orduña, having moved several elderly sisters there ahead of the eviction process in Belorado.

“Belshazzar’s Feast – The Writing on the Wall”
A depiction of the fateful night in Babylon, where King Belshazzar, drunk with pride, defiles the sacred vessels of the Temple of Jerusalem. Amid golden lamps, jewels, music, and rivers of wine, men and women raise holy goblets in blasphemous praise to idols of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. The air is thick with arrogance, yet unseen, heaven prepares judgment—the hand of God is about to write on the wall
Belshazzar's feast, or the story of the writing on the wall, chapter 5 in the Book of Daniel, tells how Neo-Babylonian royal but corrupt Belshazzar holds a great feast and drinks from the vessels that had been looted in the destruction of the First Temple. A hand appears and writes on the wall. The terrified Belshazzar calls for his wise men, but they cannot read the writing. The queen advises him to send for Daniel, renowned for his wisdom. Daniel reminds Belshazzar that his father, Nebuchadnezzar, when he became …More
