May 3 Constitution Day Parade in Kraków, 2025. Scotch Mist, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons Every May 3, Poland celebrates more than just a historical date. It not only commemorates the Constitution of 1791—the first to be adopted in Europe and the second in the world—but also recalls a much more recent battle: that of a people striving to preserve their identity in the face of a system that sought to erase it. Today, it may seem unthinkable, but in 1951, Poland’s oldest national holiday was banned by the communist regime and became just another workday. But the problem was not the day itself, but what it stirred up: a collective consciousness that was difficult to control. To understand why May 3 was persecuted, one must look beyond constitutional history. This date represented something the communist regime could not tolerate: national sovereignty, historical memory, and the desire for freedom. Those who dared to celebrate it risked arrest, persecution, and violence. For the …
Canadian Doctors Try to Railroad Catholic Priest into 'Assisted Suicide' Over Broken Hip | Frank Bergman, Slay News A Canadian Catholic priest is sounding the alarm after doctors tried to pressure him into “assisted suicide” twice while recovering from a broken hip in a hospital, despite him telling them that euthanasia goes against his beliefs. Father Larry Holland, a 79-year-old priest from the Archdiocese of Vancouver, was horrified that Canadian government-sanctioned doctors attempted to railroad him into being euthanized, despite not being terminally ill. The priest’s alarming story underscores growing concerns that Canada’s state-sanctioned assisted suicide program is spiraling far beyond its original limits. Holland said he was “very shocked” after medical pushed so-called “Medical Assistance in Dying” (MAiD) as an “option” during his recovery from a hip fracture. Priest Offered Death While Recovering, Not Dying Holland broke his hip after falling on Christmas Day. He is …More
The Archbishop of Toronto Cardinal Frank Leo has issued a message for Catholic Education Week, running May 3-8. In part he writes, Our publicly funded Catholic education remains a cherished gift in this province, and one we nurture with great care. It is our responsibility to offer an authentic Christian witness and teaching, guiding our youth to discover the personal love of Christ. As pilgrims, we accompany them, fostering their growth in faith and indeed hope, that they may become instruments of God’s transforming grace in the world. This lofty calling requires that we remain steadfast to the Gospel of Life, the truths of our Traditions, and to reject the different cultural and nefarious ideologies that undermines our authentic Catholic identity and life in Christ. Catholic education in Ontario is a gift. However, it comes with the responsibility to promote and protect the truth, faith and hope found in the Gospel. Since 2009, both the public and separate school boards have …
Pope Leo XIII’s message was sent to Canada but it applies to all Catholic parents in the world: protect and promote Catholic education for your children today and tomorrow.
Leo XIV is set to sign his first encyclical on May 15, according to the German news agency KNA. The working title is Magnifica humanitas. Reports suggest, the encyclical will address expected to address issues including artificial intelligence, peace, the crisis of international law, and other contemporary threats facing humanity. The May 15 date would place Leo XIV’s first encyclical in the tradition of the Church’s great social teachings: • 15 May 1891: Rerum Novarum by Pope Leo XIII - foundational text of modern Catholic social teaching. • 15 May 1931: Quadragesimo anno by Pope Pius XI - developed subsidiarity and social doctrine further. • 15 May 1961: Mater et magistra by Pope John XXIII - focused on labor and economic justice. Saint of the Day, Friday, April 30, 1971 Today is the feast of Saint Catherine of Siena, Virgin and Doctor of the Church. Here is the text provided about her: The first Christmas Catherine spent in Rome was approaching. When she was a poor girl, she had always liked to give presents to her friends on this holy feast with flowers and crosses. But now that she had prestige, to the joy of her friends, she was obtaining indulgences and concessions from the Church for them. She did not forget the pope, to whom she sent five oranges she had gilded, sending along with the gift these expressive lines: “Be thou a tree of love grafted onto the Tree of Life, Christ, the sweet Jesus. From this tree will spring a flower born from thy will, and the thought of virtues and their fruits will ripen for the greater honor of God and the salvation of thy flock.” “This fruit seems bitter when first bitten by the mouth of holy desire, but it will become sweet provided the soul is resolved to suffer to death …More

[Saint Bridget of Sweden – XIV Century AD; Uppland, Sweden/Rome, Papal States; Patron Saint of Europe, Widow, Mystic, Spiritual Writer] Revelation 6 ~ The sixth revelation in the Book of Questions in which Christ speaks to his bride, blessed Bridget, and instructs her, saying that in the spiritual life peace of mind and eternal glory are won through vigorous struggle and perseverance and humble acquiescence in the advice of an elder and by bravely resisting temptations. He offers the example of Jacob who became a servant in order to win Rachel. He says that some people experience the greatest temptations at the beginning of a conversion to the spiritual life, others in the middle or toward the end. It is therefore necessary to have a holy fear and humble perseverance in the virtues and in the struggle until the very end. The Son speaks: ”It is written that Jacob became a servant for the sake of Rachel, and the days seemed short to him due to his great love, for the greatness of his love …More
"But once the commandment was transgressed, there immediately arose a sense of shame, just as happens to people who sin against their temporal lord, who are even ashamed of the very limbs with which they have sinned. Along with shame over the transgression, there also sprang up a disordered impulse, especially in the reproductive organs. Yet, in order that this impulse might not be unproductive, it was by God's goodness turned to good, and the act of carnal union was established by divine commandment in order that nature might bear its fruits."
"Answer to the first question. The Judge answered: ”O friend, I preferred to be born of a virgin rather than of a woman who was not a virgin, because that which is purest befits me who am God most pure. While it remained in the order of its creation, human nature had no deformity."

Ah, and by the way, with this statement, Prevost clearly indicates that he has never renounced the apostasy of worshipping Pachamama: "Everything we hear today regarding synodality, we were already doing in Chulucanas back in the 1980s."

Leo "has visited Israel repeatedly" and "expressed admiration for the resilience of Jewish life and has cultivated ties with Jewish leaders in Peru, the United States, and Europe. He does not sentimentalize the Palestinian cause, nor reduce the Middle East to a victim-oppressor binary." Those same Vatican sources report that Leo sees "Israel as 'a moral project within history.'" He also "called Netanyahu 'a necessary man in dangerous times,' which, in Vaticanese, borders on radical candor."

What an excellent essay. St. Athanasius uses a similar technique to that used by the prophet Daniel in defending the accused wife (who reminds us so much of a faithful Catholic woman). St. Athanasius also has a prophetic defense against contraception. Jesus didn’t come from within our system. He stepped into it. Born into time, but not bound by it. Fully human, yet fully God. Every other religious system begins with humanity reaching upward - trying to understand God, please God, or become like God through effort, discipline, or enlightenment. But the message of the Gospel is fundamentally different: God came down. Not as an idea or philosophy, but as a person who entered history, experienced hunger, fatigue, temptation, and suffering - yet without sin. This is the Incarnation: God becoming human, walking through our reality, and living under the same physical limits we do - feeling the same pressures of living in our broken world. Because of this, Christ offers understanding, representation, and redemption from within the human experience itself. Yet, death didn't hold Jesus. Sin didn't corrupt Him. Where every other human story ends in limitation, He broke through it. His resurrection wasn't just a miracle - it was a declaration …More
