Father Gnocchi in the company of mutilated children The dramatic experience of the retreat from Russia, lived as military ordinariate always on the front, matured in Gnocchi the idea and the focus of his charitable mission; assisting the victims of war, in search of redemption for their "innocent suffering". In 1945, he was nominated as director of the Istituto Grandi Invalidi (Institute of Registered Invalids) of Arosio, thus accepting the first orphans and adults disabled by the war. In 1948, he founded the "Fondazione Pro Infanzia Mutilata" ("Foundation For Mutilated Infants"), acknowledged in the next year with a decree by the President of Italy. The same year, the Italian Prime MinisterAlcide De Gasperi nominated Gnocchi as adviser to the Presidency of the Council for the mutilated by the war. In 1951, the foundation was dissolved, and all its goods and structure were donated to the newly created Fondazione Pro Juventute (Juvenile Foundation).
Islam is a “magnificent faith” for Italian bishops. During the presentation of 11 teaching materials for Catholic religion classes in Italian schools, Rev. Valentino Cottini, former rector of the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI), praised Islam. The presentation was attended by the presiding Italian Cardinal, Matteo Zuppi. Rev. Cottini said that the school materials provide "an objective and empathetic presentation of Islam that does not shy away from difficulties, but illustrates this magnificent faith and splendid culture". The materials were developed jointly by Christian and Muslim scholars with the backing of the Italian Bishops' Conference.

Pope Leo XIV will receive preventive immunotherapy with pembrolizumab for at least three years to reduce the risk of cancer returning, journalist Mirticeli Medeiros of GloboNews reported on October 23. He referred to sources at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The Pope will not undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The report contradicts an official statement issued just two days earlier. On October 21, the Holy See Press Office announced that the Pope’s doctors had concluded that no further treatment was necessary following his lung cancer surgery. Surgeons removed the lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung during an operation on October 13.
