Leo XIV Has Confirmed today Head of Romanian Greek Catholic Church: Bishop Claudiu-Lucian Pop, 53, has been appointed Major Archbishop of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, succeeding the late Cardinal Lucian Mureșan. Born in 1972 in Satu-Mare, originally a chemistry student, he shifted to theology and studied in Rome, earning a doctorate in spiritual theology. He served in Rome and Paris, and was ordained bishop in 2011. He organized Pope Francis’ 2019 visit to Blaj and became Bishop of Cluj-Gherla in 2021. Within the Romanian Bishops’ Conference, he leads the commissions for ecology and communications. He is known for his loyalty to Pope Francis and his emphasis on synodality. In June 2021, he told EparhiaClujGherla.ro, "Let us walk together as Pope Francis urges us to do."

Cardinal McElroy has cancer: Yesterday, the Archdiocese of Washington announced that their archbishop, Cardinal Robert McElroy, has been diagnosed with cancer. The tumour will be surgically removed on 13 November. McElroy has well-differentiated liposarcoma, a non-aggressive cancer that tends not to metastasise. The prognosis is very good. Speaking to the priests of the archdiocese about his diagnosis during their annual convocation, the prelate told them, “I am at peace with this challenge, and I hope and believe that with God's grace, I will be Archbishop of Washington for many years to come”.

But the Church must respect the rights of all people. The principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty also is true in the Church.
