Edward Pentin reports on X.com that organisers of the annual Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage were not offered an alternative date to celebrate Mass in St Peter’s Basilica. He added that the Vatican’s August 7 letter simply stated that the basilica was unavailable, without mentioning any conflicting events. In recent days, it has been argued that the Franciscan anniversary celebrations in St Peter's basilica had been planned for years. @Michael Haynes wrote that the specific event at the Altar of the Chair was announced only in September, after the pilgrimage’s request for Mass had been refused in August. As for the prohibited procession, customary security restrictions have been cited as an excuse. Pope Leo XIV will receive preventive immunotherapy with pembrolizumab for at least three years to reduce the risk of cancer returning, journalist Mirticeli Medeiros of GloboNews reported on October 23. He referred to sources at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The Pope will not undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The report contradicts an official statement issued just two days earlier. On October 21, the Holy See Press Office announced that the Pope’s doctors had concluded that no further treatment was necessary following his lung cancer surgery. Surgeons removed the lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung during an operation on October 13. According to Medeiros, the tumour measured 2.5 centimetres and tested positive for PD-L1, a protein that can help cancer cells evade the immune system. Islam is a “magnificent faith” for Italian bishops. During the presentation of 11 teaching materials for Catholic religion classes in Italian schools, Rev. Valentino Cottini, former rector of the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI), praised Islam. The presentation was attended by the presiding Italian Cardinal, Matteo Zuppi. Rev. Cottini said that the school materials provide "an objective and empathetic presentation of Islam that does not shy away from difficulties, but illustrates this magnificent faith and splendid culture". The materials were developed jointly by Christian and Muslim scholars with the backing of the Italian Bishops' Conference.
