Vatican blocks traditional Catholics from entering St. Peter’s basilica – Mass with Bishop Schneider downgraded. Today, 1,000 Catholics participated in the annual Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage. Vatican security stopped the pilgrims near the obelisk in St. Peter’s Square, preventing them from proceeding to the basilica. Vatican authorities also prohibited the planned Pontifical Mass at the main altar of St. Mary Major. On October 23, gunmen attacked a Greek Orthodox church in Hammoud, near Karak, Jordan, opening fire on Christians attending a funeral. Initial reports indicate seven people were killed and 34 injured, some seriously. Jordanian authorities described the shooting as a terrorist attack.
