Today, Synod.va published the final report from Study Group 9 on theological criteria and synodal methodologies for discerning doctrinal, pastoral, and ethical questions. It is de facto on homosexuality. The report rejects the term “controversial” and says such matters should be treated as “emerging” issues (page 6). Repeatedly, it speaks of an alleged “paradigm shift” in how the Church interprets the teaching: “The commitment to practising the synodal nature of the Church implies the implementation of a ‘paradigm shift.’” (page 8) The final report even analogizes present ecclesial disputes to the Jerusalem Council’s overturning of circumcision requirements.
