There are so few African-American bishops because of “racism,” Washington Auxiliary Bishop Robert Boxie said in a September 7 interview with Catholic News Service. He was appointed by Pope Leo XIV on May 1. The numbers: Of 268 active U.S. bishops, five (2%) are Black. Black Americans make up 2% of U.S. Catholics and, over the past 20 years, about 2% of U.S. priestly ordinations.
Why are there so few Black bishops in America? “The short answer is racism.” America’s youngest bishop, Robert Boxie, Auxiliary of Washington.

The priest behind the infamous “Eucharist at sea” has been appointed head of University Pastoral Ministry for the Archdiocese of Milan for the next five years. In July 2022, Don Mattia Bernasconi celebrated a Novus Ordo Mass waist-deep in the sea off Crotone, using an inflatable mattress as an “altar.” Since September 1, he has overseen the Archdiocese’s pastoral work with university students, while continuing as chaplain at Humanitas University, a position he has held since 2023.
Emma Bonino has died aged 78. May God have mercy on her soul. She was one of the most consequential figures in modern Italian politics, and Catholics should be honest about what that legacy means. She devoted much of her public life to causes fundamentally opposed to Catholic moral teaching, most notably the legalisation and promotion of abortion. She became a principal architect of Italy’s transformation from an overwhelmingly Catholic culture into a far more secular one. That makes Pope Francis’s repeated warmth towards her, including his extraordinary description of Bonino as one of Italy’s “forgotten greats”, all the more difficult to understand.
Leo XIV has accepted the early resignation of Bishop Guido Gallese, 64, of Alessandria, Northern Italy, today. Bishop Luigi Testore of neighboring Acqui is the new apostolic administrator. Monsignor Gallese was appointed as Ecclesiastical Assistant to the National Association of Shrines by the Dicastery for Evangelisation. Gallese’s resignation comes eight months after an apostolic visitation by Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello. No report from Bertello’s visitation was published. ANSA reported that complaints about Bishop Gallese had accumulated in Rome over several years and that the visitation examined diocesan administration and finances, including major property projects. The visitation generated overstated headlines over Gallese’s lifestyle: his Tesla, motorcycle, kitesurfing and residence were repeatedly cited in Italian media. However, the deeper conflict appears to have involved Gallese’s governance. Local media described strong opposition from the clergy, particularly over parish …بیشتر

The Euthanasia Bill in Britain is defeated, for now. The House of Commons has rejected the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, defeating the latest attempt to legalize assisted suicide in England and Wales. MPs voted 286 to 270 against the legislation at its second reading. This is a decisive reversal that ends the bill’s progress through Parliament. Had it passed, the law would have allowed terminally ill adults with a life expectancy of less than six months to receive “assistance” in ending their lives under “specified conditions.” Opposition came from far beyond religious and pro-life circles. Doctors, disability advocates, legal experts, and others warned that vulnerable people could face subtle pressure or coercion, while serious concerns remained about safeguards and the state of Britain’s palliative and hospice care. Archbishop John Sherrington of Liverpool welcomed the result and thanked MPs, healthcare professionals, lawyers, disability organizations, people of different …بیشتر

"On the seventh day God rested from all the work which he had done [cf. Gen 2.2]. The seventh article is the coming to judgement, in which we shall rest from all our works and labours. Let us call upon the Holy Spirit, who is Love, the bond between the Father and the Son. May he grant us so to be united with each of these seven days and articles, and in accord with them, that it may avail for his honour and the building-up of his Church."
Emma Bonino has died at 78. For decades, she was one of Italy’s most prominent Radical politicians. She was a leading campaigner for abortion, euthanasia, drug legalization, and more secular causes. Although she was not a medical professional, Bonino, according to her own testimony, performed over 10,000 illegal abortions. She is one of the most sinister figures in the history of Italy. Bonino nevertheless praised Francis, who maintained a warm personal relationship with her and personally visited her in 2024, bringing her flowers and chocolates.

Brazilian Bishop believes in "Goddess" and embraces "all sexual diversity": Bishop José Valdeci Santos Mendes, 64, of Brejo, Maranhão, presided over a Eucharist at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Conception on September 7, Brazil’s Independence Day. After Communion and before the final blessing, two young men recited the “Creed of the Youth of the Ecclesial Base Communities.” Developed in 2016, the text speaks of a “God/Goddess,” described as “liberating and revolutionary.” This creed explicitly rejects belief in a “hierarchical Church” while “embracing all sexual diversity.” Before the recitation, Bishop Mendes introduced the creed as a “supplication from the youth of Latin America, who stand before God asking him to come to meet us.”
A heterodox creed invoking a “God/Goddess” and featuring left-wing political language was recited at the annual “Cry of the Excluded” Mass celebrated by Bishop José Valdeci Santos Mendes of Brejo, Brazil.

I wonder how much money he is making with them now. Besides his own RX company in cahoots with phizer selling cheap pills to make sure more people are able to get sick from them. The king of the vax. Still denying with mounds of proof it's dangerous. Still promotes it. And yet he still has followers who can't see one thing he does wrong. When he destroys everything he touches. Well, so be it. My hands are clean of this beast and his deadly sins.
Msgr. Roger Landry, 55, a prominent conservative U.S. priest, has been restricted from public ministry following non-sexual misconduct allegations by “multiple individuals.” The Diocese of Fall River said on September 11 that the allegations involve adults and possible violations of priestly codes of conduct in both Fall River and the Archdiocese of New York. After an initial investigation in New York, the diocese said there was “sufficient evidence” to impose restrictions while the case continues. Landry, who has also celebrated the traditional Roman Rite, denies wrongdoing. He says the accusations essentially concern alleged boundary violations between spiritual direction and friendship.
The Diocese of Fall River, Mass., announced Friday that Msgr. Roger Landry has been restricted from public ministry after allegations of misconduct were made against the priest by 'multiple individuals.'

Israeli Settler Who Attacked French Catholic Nun Acquitted The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court has acquitted Yona Simcha Schreiber, 36, of criminal responsibility for a violent attack on a French Catholic nun in April. The court accepted psychiatric evidence that he was psychotic at the time of the assault. He could neither understand the nature of his actions nor control them, the court ruled. He was ordered to undergo compulsory psychiatric hospitalization for up to six years. The attack occurred on Mount Zion, near King David’s Tomb outside Jerusalem’s Old City. Security footage showed Schreiber running toward the 48-year-old nun from behind and knocking her violently to the ground, causing her head to strike the stone pavement. Schreiber initially walked away before returning and kicking the nun while she remained on the ground. He also assaulted a passerby who attempted to intervene. The victim is a researcher at the Dominican-run École Biblique et Archéologique Française de Jérusalem. …بیشتر
