“Grown under the mentorship of Cardinal Cupich”: At the first press conference, Archbishop Ronald Hicks of New York, said he comes from Chicago where he “was formed under the care of Cardinal Bernardin, the witness of Cardinal George, and the mentorship of Cardinal Cupich.” He added that he grew up 14 blocks from Pope Leo XIV. Furthermore, he switched to Spanish and said he loves the Latino culture. Finally, he said a lot of people are trying to "figure out" who he is and claimed: "I love Jesus, with my mind, heart and soul".
At his first press conference (look at the facial expressions from Dolan), the new Archbishop of New York, Ronald Hicks, said he grew up 14 blocks from Pope Leo and told Cardinal Pierre, when called about the appointment, that he wanted to “do the will of God” with “great humility” and an “open heart.” He said he comes from Chicago, having served under Cardinal Bernardin, been a witness to Cardinal George, and mentored by Cardinal Cupich. Offering his “first controversial statement,” Hicks said he is a Cubs fan and will remain one. He pledged to learn the issues facing the archdiocese, including funds set aside to resolve sexual abuse claims, stressing that the Church must never stop working to prevent abuse, protect children, and care for survivors. Switching to Spanish, he expressed his love for Latino culture. Addressing those trying to “figure out” who he is, he said: “I love Jesus, with my mind, heart, and soul,” calling it his mission statement.
He'll always be a Cubs fan. He loves deep-dish pizza. And his first order of business will be massive compensation to a small army of survivors of clerical sex abuse. Isn’t that exciting?! Welcome to the Springtime of Vatican II! But, hey, he’s gonna try to follow the New York ball clubs, too. . . so, there’s hope.
The UK Supreme Court has ruled that Christian education in Northern Ireland is unlawful, citing its “proselytizing” nature and its lack of a “pluralistic” approach. The case, brought before the court by an unnamed father and daughter, challenged a public school’s religious education and prayer practices, arguing that they amounted to “indoctrination” and could stigmatize students who chose not to participate. “The word ‘indoctrination’ ordinarily has negative connotations but in the context of the Christian faith it is a synonym for evangelism or proselytising,” stated the Court. “It means winning others over so that they believe in and practice the Christian faith…To teach pupils to accept a set of beliefs without critical analysis amounts to evangelism, proselytising, and indoctrination.” The court ruled in favor of the father and daughter, who, according to court documents, do not oppose the teaching of religion in schools so long as it “does not amount to indoctrination.” …

On paper it’s a routine announcement, but it speaks volumes about the direction Leo is steering the American Church. Bejarano continues the pope’s trend of elevating pastors from diverse backgrounds: earlier this year, three of Leo’s first four U.S. bishop picks were immigrants, and Bejarano himself was born in Texas and spent part of his youth in Mexico. He brings a border perspective that resonates with Leo’s priorities. Bishop Bejarano made headlines in 2024 when he presided over an “All Are Welcome” Mass for the LGBTQ community. Pope Leo XIV is expected to appoint the handsome Bishop Ronald Hicks, 58, of Joliet, Illinois, as the 11th Archbishop of New York, replacing Cardinal Timothy Dolan. The rumour was spread by the Spanish-language outlet ReligionDigital.org on December 15 and confirmed by several journalists citing “independent sources.” The appointed is expected for December 18. Liberal journalist Christopher Hale was told: “This is a Chicago priest, advocated by Cardinal Cupich, appointed by a Chicago pope.” Hale describes Bishop Hicks as “more progressive than Cardinal Dolan.” Spiritual hero is Óscar Romero When he began as Bishop of Joliet in 2020, he wore a small photo of Archbishop Óscar Romero of San Salvador on the lapel of his jacket. Romero is a hero of politicized liberation theology. Monsignor Hicks had served as a missionary in El Salvador (2005-2010). Ally of Cardinal Blase Cupich Monsignor Hicks’s relationship with the pro-homosexual Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich is both structural and …More
On the face of it, not encouraging. We must pray, for the Church's sake, New York's sake, and for the same of his own soul that he will be more open to the Holy Spirit than his mentor, the manipulative and conniving Cupich.
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Ron Hicks, 58, of Joliet, Illinois, as the 11th Archbishop of New York. Monsignor Hicks was ordained as a priest in 1994 by likely homosexual Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. He was ordained as an auxiliary bishop by pro-homosexual Cardinal Blase Cupich, whom he owes his entire carreer. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who has led the Archdiocese of New York since 2009, will be remembered for permitting a transvestite show funeral for homosexual activist Cecilia Gentili at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in February 2024. In all likelihood, substantively, Bishop Hicks will not differ significantly from Cardinal Dolan. First Generation-X Prelate at Major US Archdiocese Bishop Hicks will be the first Generation-X prelate (born roughly between 1965 and 1980) to hold a major U.S. see. He comes from a very different era of seminary formation. The Archbishop of New York is traditionally appointed a cardinal. From 2005 to 2010, Bishop Hicks spent five years on missionary assignment …More

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Auxiliary Bishop Ramón Bejarano of San Diego as the new Bishop of Monterey, California. Born on July 17, 1969, in Laredo, Texas, Monsignor Bejarano was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Stockton on August 15, 1998. On February 27, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of San Diego, run by Cardinal Robert McElroy, one of the most progressive prelates in the American hierarchy. “All Are Welcome” Eucharist In June 2024, Bishop Bejarano presided over an “All Are Welcome” Eucharist at St. John the Evangelist Parish in San Diego. The service was presented as an outreach to practicing homosexuals. At the end of the service, he offered a special blessing for homosexuals: "Help us embrace that our beloved LGBTQ+ siblings and all who feel marginalized by the Church are beautifully and wonderfully made in Your image." He continued: "Bless our LGBTQ ministry so that we may continue to grow by your grace and bring all people to the knowledge and love …More

A man decided to mark an important moment in his life. He chose his best calf, prepared a generous meal, and said to his daughter: “Go invite our relatives and neighbors. I want to share my joy—and a good dinner—with them.” The girl stepped outside, but instead of delivering the invitation, she called out loudly: “Please help! My father’s house is on fire! Anyone who can—come quickly!” Within minutes, people began to run toward the yard. Some came in slippers, some straight from the road. They came without hesitation. One carried a bucket, another brought nothing but their own two hands—but all were ready to help. The relatives and neighbors who were supposed to be invited, however, never appeared. Some didn’t respond at all. Others likely decided it wasn’t their problem. Meanwhile, the table in the yard was already set. When those who had rushed to help saw the food, they were confused. But the man simply smiled and invited them to sit. They ate, drank, laughed, and enjoyed the …More
