Le lien fraternel ( la fraternité), dans la Bible et donc pour l'Eglise, est un trait fondamental qui concerne toute l'humanité : tous les hommes sont descendants d'un premier couple et, dès lors, tous sont frères de sang. Ils dont toutes des créatures de Dieu, et à ce titre aussi tous frères, quelques soient leurs races, leurs pays, leurs religions. Il existe une fraternité plus haute encore, la fraternité spirituelle, elle n'existe qu'entre chrétiens. Il existe enfin une fraternité surnaturelle qui n'existe qu'entre membre de la communion des saints.
Par conséquent quand on entend quelqu'un parler de fraternité entre les hommes, il ne faut pas bêtement crier à la Franc-maçonnerie, mais comprendre ce que la personne souhaite exprimer quand elle utilise le terme. Faire cela évite bien des jugements téméraires ou de passer pour un imbécile.
