Conservatives have also been fooled by the appearance of a Western coup in Ukraine in 2014 that overthrew a “duly elected” president, Viktor Yanukovich, an open Communist. This notion disturbed conservatives and contributed to the propaganda that Russia was provoked into attacking Ukraine, and has led to conservatives ignorantly supporting Russia in the Ukraine war. But it wasn’t really a western coup even though the US Endowment for Democracy did give many millions to fund the protest in the Maidan square in Kiev. Just as the “fall of Communism” was a grand deception, so was the Orange Revolution in Ukraine. The proof is found in the fact that the protest went on for months, bottled up in the Maidan square, and surrounded by the Berkut (Ukrainian riot police). In my last post I looked at Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira’s concept of the Revolution as outlined in Revolution and Counter-Revolution, which is a defining text of the Tradition, Family and Property movement. In this post I will examine the complementary concept of the Counter-Revolution and provide examples of some of its implications. Much of what makes TFP so controversial, and almost a religion unto itself, are the practices attached to the concept of the Counter-Revolution. These practices are often focused on the imitation of its historical models: “Dr. Plinio” and his mother, Dona (“Lady”) Lucilia. Corrêa de Oliveira’s Counter-Revolution is, very simply, an elitist reaction to the Revolution. It is just as totalizing in its scope and demands as the Revolution, and thus allows for little compromise or nuance. Mary has no claim on Jesus because of bloodline. Jesus specifically included his mother in proclaiming that his mother is not a specially privileged person. Jesus never said and his wrong to for you to say " the importance of US doing as His Mother does..' because he never said that.
