Nobody knows what "Christians" means for Francis and who his "modern man" is. While for Christians the Psalms are part of the Word of God, Francis believes that they "sometimes reflect a historical situation and a religious mentality that is no longer our own". The term "our own" refers to Francis, who in this case uses the pluralis majestatis. If we look at the Martyrology published in 1962, we see that these 1783 names make up 40% of all the names contained in it. In other words, they threw out almost half of all the saints! In addition, 305 saints were removed from the liturgical calendar. In the new Lectionary, no less than 306 verses of Holy Scripture were thrown out (including a lot from the New Testament).
