In the early 2000s, they published a new version of this liturgical book, in which, as I counted, 1783 (one thousand seven hundred and eighty-three) names of saints were thrown out (not counting hundreds of their nameless companions). If we look at the Martyrology published in 1962, we see that these 1783 names make up 40% of all the names contained in it. In other words, they threw out almost half of all the saints! In addition, 305 saints were removed from the liturgical calendar. In the new Lectionary, no less than 306 verses of Holy Scripture were thrown out (including a lot from the New Testament). Finally, of the 1,273 prayers in the 1962 Missal, only 13% remained untouched.
